Maidenhead Air Cadets Lead the Way
Rescuing a General in trouble, guarding a secret weapon and briefing members of the press were some of the activities undertaken by a team of Maidenhead
Air Cadets at their latest field craft and leadership weekend.
The cadets, came together with others from Thames Valley Wing at Bramley Training Area in Hampshire to put the principles of leadership into practice. After several practical training sessions covering briefing techniques, how to read the lie of the land and map making, the cadets were split into teams and set a series of realistic scenario exercises which tested their newly learnt skills to the limit!
The final scenario of the weekend lasted half a day and involved rescuing a visiting "General" who had been ambushed by the enemy, whilst trying to
locate and enemy "weapon" and briefing the ever present "press pack". The scenario was continually developed by the staff in attendance to keep
the leaders and their teams on full alert.
Wing spokesman, Squadron Leader Mark Trevena said "with each of the realistic scenario's building on the last, the cadets leadership abilities
were really tested to the full. The cadets really benefit from this type of practical exercise where they can learn valuable life skills in team
management whilst having great fun at the same time!".
