578 (Burn) Squadron memorial replacement - Carpenters Wood (Maidenhead, Berkshire)

On the 27th October, cadets and staff from 155 (Maidenhead) Squadron ATC helped with the replacement of the Burn squadron memorial in Carpenters Wood. Hugh Cawdron from the Burn Society has designed and built a new memorial to replace the 10 year old structure at the site of the crash. 155 (Maidenhead) Squadron have agreed to assist with the replacement and also to take on the future custodianship of the memorial. 10 cadets and staff dug out the old wooden memorial and excavated out the flint and chalk ground for cementing in the new foundations. After a great deal of digging, flint and cement were used to create a stable base for new memorial and then the strucutre was set in concrete.

There was also a lot of tidying to do around the mysterious Flint wall that has been built over the past 10 years. The wall was strenthened and also some of the flower beds were tidied up and replanted.

The wall and memorial cam now be visited at Carpenters Wood to the North East of Maidenhead near the A404(M). Further details can be provided by contacting 155 (Maidenhead) Squadron ATC.
